Garden & Grounds Maintenance
3 - 6 hours per week, flexible schedule
Join our dedicated team in maintaining the beauty and health of our historic gardens and landscapes.
Tasks include:
- Weeding, mulching, and general garden care
- Pruning and deadheading flowers
- Watering during dry spells
What we're looking for:
- Passion for gardening and the outdoors
- Ability to perform physical tasks (bending, lifting, kneeling)
- Reliability and commitment to regular volunteering
- Gardening experience helpful but not required
Requirements:
- Take a archaeological class (A one day class yearly to qualify through BC Housing)
What you'll gain:
- Hands-on gardening experience and skill development
- Work alongside experienced horticulturists
- Fresh air, exercise, and connection with nature
- Satisfaction of preserving a community treasure
Ask for providing tools and gloves. Please dress for outdoor work.
Tree Tour Guide
1 - 2 hours per Tree Tour
These are usually arborists who are interested in the range of trees at Riverview, and knowledgeable about different techniques of propagating and caring for them. Someone who has been on a number of walks & shows an interest or knowledge of the trees.
What you'll do:
- Conduct guided tree tours for small groups
- Share knowledge about tree species, history, and ecology
- Answer visitor questions and encourage curiosity
- Promote conservation and appreciation of our arboretum
Requirements:
- Interest in trees, plants, or local history
- Comfortable speaking to groups of 5-20 people
- Ability to walk outdoors for 1-2 hours
- Training will be provided!

Website Content Manager
3 - 5 hours per week, flexible schedule
Help us keep our website fresh and informative! As our Website Content Manager, you'll update content, add news posts, manage Tree Tours listings, and ensure our online presence accurately reflects all the great work happening at RHCS. No coding knowledge needed!
What you'll do:
- Update website content using Decap CMS (user-friendly, no coding required!)
- Add and edit news posts, events, and volunteer opportunities
- Upload and manage photos from tours and events
- Review and update information across different pages
- Ensure all content is current, accurate, and engaging
- Monitor the website for broken links or outdated information
Requirements:
- Comfortable using computers and web browsers
- Good attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong writing and proofreading abilities
- Basic understanding of file management (uploading images, PDFs)
- Ability to follow content guidelines and maintain consistency
- No technical or coding experience required - training provided!

Tree Tours Assistant
2 - 3 hours per event
Help us make our public events a success! As an Events Assistant, you'll help set up and take down displays, assist visitors, and ensure everything runs smoothly at community events like Tree Tours.
Responsibilities:
- Keep participants safe
- Manage membership forms and signing of waivers
- Answer visitor questions
- Distribute brochures and materials
